True , we are a country of mixed races, mixed habits and mixed culture. We are influenced by the Spaniards with the Catholic Religion, the Americans with Education, and several others that made us one heck of a race. Now, several decades later, our airwaves are constantly being bugged by songs with dialects we barely understand. From the beautiful faces of the F4 dudes in Meteor Garden, here comes a scene we expect would not leave soon: Korean Pop or KPop.

Let me feed you with the current of Kpop, before it leaves you hanging like a Teru teru bozu on a window pane.

GIRL GROUPS

1.) Wondergirls

They were the first to invade the land with their song 'Nobody'. Right now, their member Sunmi was replaced due to her education. The members were SunHye, Ye Eun, Yoo Bin, So Hee and Hae Rim who replaced Sunmi.






2.) 2NE1

This is the Kpop girl group we should be proud of. Sandara Park, once the country's 'krung-krung' sweetheart now sings for this equally talented quartet composed of Chae-Rim or CL, Bom, Minzy and of course, Sandara Park. Their hit songs were 'Fire', 'Lollipop' and 'I don't care.

Spell Girl Group? Hey, number doesn't matter, right? this 9-member group under SM Entertainment recently hit big with their ever-changing songs, shirts and to die for choreography. I personally like this group because of their wits, talents and faces. They were the current endorsers of LG Chocolate Phone along with another group, f(x) and the Seoul, South Korea's endorsers with Super Junior and Dongbangshinki or DBSK. Their rise to fame song was 'Gee' that ousted the record of Wonder Girls' 'Nobody' from the charts.

They recently collaborated with Super Junior with the 'Seoul Song' to promote the city's beautiful places to go to. Their other hit songs were Genie (Sowoneul Malhaebwa) and Oh! The members of this big group were, TaeYon, Jessica, Sunny, Sooyoung, YoonA, Tiffany, Hyohyeon, Seohyun and my personal favorite, Yuri.



BOY GROUPS

1.) Big Bang
Initially a six-member group, one member dropped out during the airing of the 'Big Bang Documentary' show before the official debut, leading to their current line-up of, G-Dragon, T.O.P., Daesung, Taeyang and Seungri. By the end of 2009, Big Bang became the most searched artist in South Korea. They also became the first foreign group in Japan to receive the Japan Cable Broadcasting Award for "Best Newcomer" and the first from Korea to receive the Japan Records honor.In recent years, the members have branched out to do solo activities: Taeyang and G-Dragon released solo materials while T.O.P, Daesung, and Seungri started acting. Their Songs include 'The Last Farewell', 'My Heaven' and 'Gara gara Go'.



2.) DongBangShinKi or DBSK or TVXQ

Their name translates as "The Rising Gods of the East". TVXQ made their debut on December 26, 2003 during a BoA and Britney Spears showcase, where they performed their debut single "Hug" and an rendition of "O Holy Night " with BoA. Since then, Korea and Japan can't get enough with this handsome quintet composed of Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun, Max Changmin, Hero Jaejoong and U-Know Yunho. Their album, 'Mirotic' topped several Korean and Japanese charts making these guys a hot talent to boot.


3.) Super Junior'

Yes. My favorite above all the Korean Groups that has ever risen on this planet. Super Junior is a 13-member boy band, making them the biggest boy band in the whole world. they debut in 2005 with their single 'U. These cute boys were trained by Sm Entertainment to be flexible in the fields of singing, dancing, acting, hosting and modeling. With those talents and those pretty faces, what more could a girl ask for? I say none. Their hit songs include U, Sorry, Sorry, It's You and Don't Don. The group were also divided into sub-groups to expand their musical genres. The sub-groups were Super Junior-H, Super Junior-T, Super Junior-K.R.Y and Super Junior-M.

The members, if you can memorize it in one minute were Leeteuk, Heechul, Kangin, Hankyung, Shindong, Yesung, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kibum and my favorites, Kyuhyun and Donghae.

Depression kills. And listening to a composition from a depressed song writer makes you even more depressed. Reader, do not bother listening to this song.

Hungarian compositor Rezso Serres wrote this song after trying to make a living as a song writer but kept failing miserably.

One afternoon, things finally came to a head. Seress and his fiancée had a fierce row over his utter failure as a composer, and the couple parted with angry words.

The song was written on a Sunday, after Seress played a strange melancholy on his piano ivories under a gloomy sky. Seress sent his composition off to a music publisher and waited for acceptance with a lot more hope than he usually had in his heart. But it was not accepted because of the strange music and the highly depressing rhythym.

The song was sent off again to another publisher, and this time it was accepted. The music publisher told Seress that his song would soon be distributed to all the major cities of the world. The young Hungarian was ecstatic.

But a few months after Gloomy Sunday was printed, there were a numbers of strange occurrences that were allegedly sparked off by the new song. In Berlin, Germany, a young man requested a band to play Gloomy Sunday, and after the number was performed, the man went home and blasted himself in the head with a revolver after complaining to relatives that he felt severely depressed by the melody of a new song which he couldn't get out of his head. That song was Gloomy Sunday.

Several suicides were soon reported, all the reasons were said to be because of the song 'Gloomy Sunday' . But, at the end of the 1930s, when the world war struck the globe, Rezso Seress' song was quickly forgotten in the global catastrophe, but is still available to listen to, for those who wants to be struck by what the world knew as the Hungarian suicide song.

The fact of being replaced by someone after all that you have been through is really hard. You would feel abused mentally, emotionally and sometimes, physically and you have to pick up what is left of you. Though there is a known cure for a broken-heart, the prescription what is known as moving on, some would not still accept the fact that he or she is dumped and then replaced.

The bitter ones, the one who were left behind would compare the deeds of the pasts and the present. A perfect example of a lover's bitterness blended in one song is Alanis Morisette's 'You Oughta Know'. As Korean Pop Music or K-Pop hit the airwaves of the Philippine Music Industry, So Nyuh Shi Dae (Hanja;Hangul-少女時代;소녀시대) or Girls' Generation recently released their second full-length Album entitled Oh! The song proved to be popular topping various charts upon release.

The album has 10 songs including a collaboration withe Shinee's Key and a Korean revival of Stick Wit U by Pussycat Dolls. Initial interest in the album was high, as physical and online pre-orders of the album totaled 150,000 copies. On its first day of sale, Oh! sold 30,000 copies. The album was released in 80 countries including France, Japan and China.

The song Oh!, the album's carrier single basically delivers a girl's perception on falling in love with a guy who only treats her as a 'dongsaeng' or a younger sibling. The music video, which was released two days after the digital debut of the single showed the barbie-esque side if the nine members of the group, namely, Taeyon as the leader, Jessica, Tiffany, Yuri, Sunny, Hyohyeon, YoonA, Sooyoung and Seohyun. The ending of the video, on the other hand, was epic. It was a preview on the upcoming video for the second single which has a sexier and a gothic theme.


Girls' Generation has come a long way after their debut in 2007. Their first hit song, Gee broke the record of the Wonder Girls single 'Nobody" in the charts, beating the latter's record of 6 weeks with their record of 8 weeks.

The humdrums of emo music have engulfed us during our high school years. But why bother slit your wrist listening to heart wrenching “broken glass cut me to sleep, wounds are dissected so deep” things when you can listen to a feel good song?

A friend referred the band Stereophonics during our late-night, gate-crash movie marathons. The OST of the movie Wicker Park starring Josh Hartnett and Dian Krueger, I was moved by the opening song of the movie. My friend said that it was by Stereophonics, a Welsh band playing alternative music. I was soon LSS-ed by the song and quickly searched for the lyrics. At first, I thought the lyrics were repetitive and boring, but as I started blending it with the mellow music, it fit perfectly.

The song simply discusses on being blue and on wanting to be happy. Happiness is a choice. If you want to be happy through simple things like smiles from somebody you barely know, then be happy. You are never deprived of happiness. It is around. Happiness is also contagious, you can be infected.

The music of Stereophonics is really heart felt. From the husky voice of the vocalist, Kelly Jones, you might want to forget being sad and be happy. This song also talks about on wanting to be home, on wanting to be where you really wanted to be.
